Are you thinking about writing your memoir to tell your life story? If so, you likely have a compelling reason for it. Our lives don’t have to be full of trauma or drama to be interesting. Many people want to write their memoir and publish a small batch for posterity. The children can read it after the writer is dearly departed and find within those pages, stories mom or dad didn’t have a chance (or the courage) to tell when they were alive and kicking. It is one of the reasons many folks consider this daunting task worthwhile.
My memoir is ready. It’s waiting in a drawer for my courage to publish.
If you are an aspiring memoirist, please know this: you don’t need to read a how-to book before you begin. For example, if you are tempted to first read The Art of Memoir by Mary Karr, I’m here to tell you it isn’t necessary. In fact, reading this book may just snuff out your desire to begin. My advice? Avoid it altogether–here’s why…

Welcome spooky, October…looks like me trying to come up with a brilliant blog post…
Well, September came and went in a flash. I didn’t write one post here and that is a first for me. I have never gone a whole month without writing something here. Should this concern me? I remember the early days of my blogging back in 2011-12 and I didn’t understand bloggers who would take long, unexpected breaks but now I do. They had been in the game for several years and eventually, we change.
Such a small word for so large a meaning. To be brave even when you fear it. Whatever ‘it’ might be. I wrote in my art journal with a white pen on black painted paper (setting the mood), exactly what I needed to hear. Funny how that works. Well, the purpose of journaling truly is to help us muddle through emotions, doubts and life stuff. As I re-read this passage, I felt it might be helpful to my readers.
Today, I am cautiously introducing to you, Nora M. Parker, my night time poet pseudonym or perhaps my muse, and alter ego.
Although I have only published one of her poems here—something she reminds me often—I plan to include more of her night poems here in the near future.
I will warn you that she has a bit of an attitude. Without further ado, welcome Nora M. Parker to the blog…

I can’t believe it. It’s my tenth Blog-giversary! Ten years of blogging here at lisathomsonlive. Notice how the word ‘giver’ is found in this term bloggiversary. It’s fitting, isn’t it? We bloggers give a ton. Words, ideas, solutions, time…Time does fly while you’re having fun. Best of all, fellow bloggers who have become my online friends have enriched this whole blogging thing.
I wrote this little poem as a challenge: Choose one element and write about it. I chose AIR and VERSE.
What element attracts you? Water, fire, earth or air? I tend toward water but Air is my birth sign…so I chose her.
Air is breath of life, our souls. It is the power harnessed to create energy. It is also the ‘mother of thought’ and corresponds to communication and the colors yellow and white.
#WritePhoto is a writing prompt created by Sue of Sue Vincent’s Daily Echo . Sue has chosen this image with the word prompt ‘paint’. You can write poetry (free style), essay or a story using the image or the word. I’ve chosen the image.

His True Love Ash blew into his eye As he scattered her From the bridge Into the Creek below Lily pads will surround her And gracious trees will soothe her Just as she had asked To rest her burned bones Beneath the red bridge Where they first kissed He wiped his wet cheek With his shirt sleeve Dusted his true love From his jeans Thank you, my Love, he whispered As he replaced the lid of the urn Closing his eyes For a final goodbye He turned to leave The bridge swayed And the wind carried her scent Of lavender back to him

I’ve been reading so many books lately. Trying new authors has been stimulating and fun. Along with this I’ve become aware of some minor book pet peeves I have. Let’s dish…
