Things That Are Bugging Me

October 8, 2021

Um, just bitching over here, trying to understand the world around me. There are some things that have been bothering me lately. Not all of it is due to Covid, either. But yeah, there is a little of that, too. Let’s get started:

Things that are bugging me
This is my “Let me tell you the things that are bugging me” face or the “Really?” face.

Coffee Shops That Won’t Take Cash (or your order)

Coffee shops that don’t take cash. Why? I mean, this is ridiculous. So, I have to use my debit card and ‘tap’ your dumb apple machine. Meantime Loonies and Toonies are overflowing in my wallet and jacket pockets.

Also, iced coffees are perfect in the summer so, why can I get an iced latte but not an iced cappucino? I was told this quite bluntly by the barista when I finally got to the till to place my order.

“I’ll have an iced cappucino, please,” I said with a smile.

“I can’t make you an iced cappucino. I can make you an iced latte.”

“Oh. Okay I guess I’ll have an iced latte,” I said.

BUT then the next customer came up as I was waiting for my iced latte and I heard her ask if he could make her some special drink I’ve never heard of. You know what he says? “Sure, I can make you whatever you want.”

Really? So I spoke up because I couldn’t resist:

“But you can’t make an iced cappucino,” I said, with a half smile.

He then went on to explain why he could not make me an iced cappucino. I just stood there and gave him a Taylor Mason (from Billions) stare.

Make sense, people. Just make the iced latte and call it a cappucino–I’ll feel better about the whole thing.

A Certain Exercise Clothing Retailer

Shall I just tell who this is? Lu Lu Lemon. Who else?

Who else shouts every political movement on their store front sign, complete with hashtags. All Children Matter. Black Lives Matter. Yes, of course they do. Couldn’t agree more, but why are you advertising these movements at your store? By doing this you are simply reducing these movements to words and hashtags to display your political correctness. Maybe you think you’ll get more customer loyalty by using these slogans. What I’d really like to know is, are you donating a portion of your daily sales to said movements or causes? I doubt it.

Stick to your purpose; selling overpriced exercise wear.

Employees of Independent Stores (who send you big box stores)

When employees of Indie owned shops send you to a big box store to find something they don’t have. I can’t tell you how many times this has happened to me. I’m confused. You want me to go shop somewhere else? Instead, how about you take my name and number, pass it on to the owner and see if they want to order me the thing I’m looking to buy. If I wanted to shop at big box, discount stores, I wouldn’t be standing in yours. Also, whatever happened to “shop local”?

People Who Measure Everything by Dollars

Money might be a necessity but if it’s the only reason we do anything or make any single decision, then what an uncivilized world we would live in.

Think how little we would actually accomplish if we didn’t try anything because we might lose a few dollars. We’d already have lost. Our world would be pretty dull if our ancestors didn’t try anything new because they were afraid of losing money. We certainly wouldn’t be where we are today.

There’s more to winning and losing than what we can measure in dollars.

Speaking of money, money, money…

Bloggers Who Expect Visitors to Pay Them

I can’t even. Don’t get me started. I mean, what the actual…?

Bloggers who want random readers, subscribers and any visitor to hit the ‘donate’ button, or buy them a ‘coffee’. Why?

Unless their writing is making a tremendous difference in the world (or their corner of it) why should anyone pay them? Reviewing movies isn’t quite the same as raising awareness for women’s rights, for example. I dunno, I just don’t see making a donation to a blogger because they reviewed the latest installment of Jack Reacher.

Don’t ask people to support you so you can stay home and write in your stained pajamas. Do what the rest of us bloggers do, write a book or two. Then you’ll have something to offer your visitors—in exchange for a few dollars.

Restaurants That Think They’re Night Clubs

It can really spoil a lunch when you can’t hear yourself think let alone your date speak. Sure, you could sit without talking but you’re not going to get any peace of mind while the dance music is thumping above your head. And don’t bother asking if the music can be turned down, they will apologize and say they have ‘no control’ over the volume button. As if it is controlled by some mystical spirit in the sky. “It cannot be helped” they say, as they dance away from your table.

Anti-Vaxxers

So, I cannot wrap my head around these people. They look normal. You’d never know an anti-vaxxer if you were staring them in the eye. Then, BAM. They make a statement that the vaccination is poison and they don’t know what it will do to their body. Um, I’m pretty sure you’ve taken Tylenol for a headache, smoked a joint, imbibed in alcohol, and you are still standing. Not to mention your mother likely vaccinated you as an infant which is why you are standing here today talking nonsense.

I heard one say that the news is sponsored by big drug companies and that’s the only reason we are being told to get vaccinated. You get whiplash from the stark contrast of a normal looking human that has a malfunctioning brain.

And I’m certain they say many other crazy things that make little sense. However, they don’t say anything about Covid-19, as if it’s non-existent. As if we are all vaccinated for the fun of it rather than to protect ourselves from dying.

And that’s just it. The anti-vaxxers are interfering with our protection against a virus that has no mercy. They are now clogging up the hospitals. Still, they’re convinced it’s the vaccination that’s going to kill them.

Their nonsensical protests are only drawing attention to their stubborn ignorance.

Whatever.

I don’t care anymore because I have something they don’t—a vaccination PASSPORT. I can go places, participate in life, something they cannot do anymore.

Okay, that about covers my rant. These have been building up lately. Every once in a while I like to share my dismay in what I see around me. Have I been too harsh?

What’s bugging you lately?

I am with you on ALL of these—especially the antivaxxers. Like seriously, WTF is with these people??

Thank you, Marcia! 😀 Right? Exactly!

Anti-vaxxers confuse me so very much. I hate that they are making this worse for people and dragging things out more. I’m vaccinated, but I still get worried about getting it again because who knows how I’ll react, or the people in my family who are immunocompromised? *shakes head*

Sometimes it’s good to just get things out!

Hi Lauren. Yes, they are backward thinking. Exactly right, everyone else is suffering for their decisions. It’s true we can get it again even with vaccinations, so we still have to be careful. At least the symptoms will be less severe but still, who wants Covid? NO THANKS.
I hope you and your family remain safe, Lauren.
It does feel good to write a rant once in a while 🙂

Too harsh? No way Lisa. Some things are really crazy and we ought to say it out loud.
Anti-waxxers, so many around me, some even think that COVID doesn’t exist and that this is all a big lie so governments can control us!!! No coment.
My main rant these days is about companies having financiel difficulties and still allowing trips all around the world, which cost a big amount of money, with no restrictions. At the same time they thinking about putting people in part-time work.
Take care Lisa! A bit of rant is good from time to time. We feel lighter afterwards.

Thank you, Marie. So true. And I try to remain positive so it does feel good to just sayyy what’s bugging me 😀
I had someone ask me if I “really got Covid”, as if I had made it up because it isn’t a real thing. SIGH. That’s a good one, Marie. Big companies will often do what is in the company’s best interest not the employees. 😛 I did enjoy this post and hearing what’s bugging you and my other readers. Take care!

Cash only shops are a source of stress for me because I never have cash. My favorite cookie store and one of my favorite ice cream shops are cash only. I make it worth it (make a whole field trip out of it) but still.

As for the barista, big WHATEVER to him.

I don’t know LuluLemon! Now I need to see what nonsense they’re spouting. Can’t be as bad as the anti-vaxxers.

It’s one extreme to another. What’s really annoying is they don’t care what is best for the customer. Cash only, I often think they’re dodging taxes 😛 Maybe not.
Ha. Exactly. I called him on it tho.
No, not as bad as anti-vaxxers. They take the cake.
Always nice to hear from you, Tamara.

🙂 Thank you, LA CONTESSA. It’s always nice to know that my rant is resonating. I’d like to know what they did! The ads on blogs are atrocious. I get that they want to ‘monetize’ but geez, it’s so unpleasant. I often click away because the ads are so distracting. Good idea about the iced coffee. I will remember that for next summer!
As for those anti-vaxxers–exactly! GO AWAY, PEOPLE. Let the rule followers get their emergency treatments. 😛 We’re still here alright because our mothers did the right thing and took us into the public health clinic and got us vaccinated!! UGH xoxo

I’m with you on every beef, especially the ‘donate’ to my blog and the anti vaxxers clogging up the system and holding us all back from stomping the beast out. So rant away my friend. Hugs <3

Hi Lisa, I agree with you on all the points you’ve raised. It’s good to throw the bugging bugs out than keep pondering about them, as things don’t change easily. You can’t convince the anti-vaxxers or change the attitude of people, be it expecting donations or lowering the sound of music!
I don’t have a rant at present as I’ve poured all into my poetry. 😊 Have a wonderful weekend.

      October 9, 2021 at 12:00 pm

It does feel good to get the bugs out with a rant. Nope. We can’t do a damn thing about those people who refuse to protect themselves (and in turn, us). Haha, some things are easier to ‘fix’. YES, you have wisely poured your bugs into your poetry and it’s powerful! Good for you. I should be doing more of that.
Have a great weekend, Balroop <3

I guess a lot of my gripes are similar to yours. The VAXX and Mask situation here in the Deep South is beyond appalling. The close-mindedness and narrow world views of the citizenry, not to mention their support of a delusional ex-president vie for the top of the list.

I wish I could meet you for coffee! We could set’em all straight!

    • lisa

      October 9, 2021 at 11:58 am

Hi Ellen, yes, we’ve heard lots about it and I feel bad for the sane citizens like yourself. 😛 We are having a similar problem here in Alberta, Canada. How are we going to get through this with a 30% or more population of non-vaxxers? UGH.
Ah, the delusional ex-president was one of my ‘things that are bugging me’ but I took it out. Ha.
I wish we could meet for coffee. Indeed we would set’em straight! <3

My rant is about disposable masks. Masks, masks, everywhere. Something I have noticed more since school returned to session. On one walk last week, I counted 14 masks lying abandoned in various places on our streets. I was only walking for 1 hour… do the math. That’s over 2 masks for every 10 minutes or 1km of walking. Go figure?

    • lisa

      October 8, 2021 at 5:42 pm

That’s a lot of dirty masks, Joyce! It’s the new and more disgusting street garbage. I always see a few every time I’m out walking. Although I bet many don’t even realize they dropped their mask. 😛

My complaint today about the lack of wind and excess of rain seems trivial, but I did stay over a fews after a conference on Hilton Head to sail with old friends and the weather is miserable.Maybe tomorrow. With that, I mostly agree with your rant, but if you want to buy me coffee, I’m easy, I take mine black 🙂

    • lisa

      October 8, 2021 at 1:12 pm

Well that’s a fair complaint, Jeff. I’ve heard Hilton Head is beautiful. Too bad about the weather! Wishing you wind in your sails! 🙂 Ha. I’d be happy to buy you a coffee.
