Dear Richard

Dear RichardFrom the archives, one of my favorites;

I can’t think of a better way to spend a rainy day then to pen a love letter.  During divorce we stop believing in love, so bring back that feeling by writing a love letter to anyone of your choice, maybe someone you’ve always admired from afar.  Some say a love letter to yourself is effective in brightening the spirits.  They say to go so far as address it, stamp it and put it in the mail.  For those of us with short term memory loss, when we receive it we’ll be delighted and wonder who thinks so highly of us.  In spite of that recommendation, I’m writing to Richard Gere.  It’s more of a lust letter and I’m okay with that.

Dear Richard,

 I hope I’m not too late in proclaiming my love for you.  I recently came across a picture of you and was reminded that now would be a perfect time for you and I to (re)unite.  You see I’m old enough and you’re still young enough.  It was love at first sight in An Officer and a Gentlemen.  Remember that film, when you picked me up in your arms at the end…oh?  That was Debra Winger?  Well, no need to split hairs.  dear richardI secretly hoped my boyfriend at the time would sweep me up in his arms and take me away from whatever my 17 year old self was running from.  I was young and although I didn’t ask you, I’m sure you would have told me to come back in 5 or 10 years.  (or maybe 2 if you’re as perverted as they say).  I was definitely too young to appreciate you in American Gigolo but I did have an unexplained interest in your rear view and when you were hanging upside down without a shirt, I was truly mesmerized.  I apologize for this love letter coming so late but I’ve been busy being married and raising two children.  Now though, I wanted to let you know I’m definitely old enough for you.  Please don’t say “But I am too old for you”.  Dearest Richard, you could never be too old for me.  Call me.                                                                                           dear richard

All my love,

Lisa

    aaah, American Gigolo. Went to see it with a girlfriend, and when the pivotal moment came when Richard Gere turned and there was the briefest glimpse of his “package,” we both leeeeaaaaned over in our movie seats, like that would help us see it better. (You will be unsurprised to find that did not work.)

    Richard’s gone from being a pretty boy to a handsome man, but my love letter would be to George Clooney. I like everything I know about him, from looks to politics to philanthropy to intelligence well articulated. My only complaint is that the fact that the women rotating on his arm aren’t ME.
