New Look, New Season

time for a cool changee

image; Jan’spageofawesomeness tumblr

It’s mid-September already and we’re fast approaching autumn equinox. The cooler days, the turning leaves, cozy blankets and sweaters, corn on the cob, fresh picked apples, and warm cider are just a few of my favorite things.

It’s also a time for changing things up. So, how do you like the new look of lisathomsonlive? I hope you do as much as I. Take a moment to look around and if there’s anything out of place or hard to navigate give me a shout via email or here in the comments.

Goals Update

Just to give you an update on my August goals, obviously I accomplished the “change my website” to become author focused. I hope that based on the new landing page, it is abundantly clear that you’ve  landed on the website of a published author. I also hope visitors will take advantage of the reading samples and free e-book download offers available now. It’s  a complimentary way to decide if you want more of my writing.

Other goals for August were not met. Amazon situation is still outstanding, I still have not received the promised email from them regarding publishing reviews for the books I buy from them. In the meantime, there is no way to get away from Amazon sponsored posts all over the internet, like this one on Apartment Therapy:

“This Travel Mug On Amazon Has Over 5,000 Five-Star Reviews–& Is Currently On Sale”

Really? A travel mug has 5,000 five star reviews, yet little old me can’t write a book review from a verified purchase? What’s up with that? Moving on…

The Wine Diaries is almost ready so that’s a half done goal. I need to get back to my first draft of Daughter of the Moon. Instead, I’ve started an outline for another book. However, that’s not going to help me finish my novel. Re-focus!

I did promise a short story excerpt from Hearts Unbroken and haven’t gotten to it just yet. However, a whole story is available for free download:

In TakingFlight, Mack is a broken-down Chevy of a father but he keeps on plugging, for the sake of his two young children. He’s learning the demands and irony of motherhood a little too late.

My Daughter’s Wedding

This was a huge success and full of excitement and emotions. Seeing old friends was fun and of course observing the wedding party at 11 pm was also fun. We danced the night away as well and made special memories with the kids. My daughter was very confident. There were no nerves or cold feet whatsoever.

We had a mother/daughter day before the wedding. We shopped for some last minute necessities (ended up buying mini Vans sneakers for the flower girl!) and went for a pedicure and then lunch. She was so calm and happy. We shared some confidences of her past and she said that I “knew too much”, haha, is there a mother who doesn’t?

My only regret is that I didn’t say a few words at the reception. I decided before hand that I wouldn’t get up to the microphone and make a speech mainly because I thought there were going to be enough speeches. Besides, it’s not traditionally the mother of the bride’s place. My daughter knows how much I love her and a mother’s love is unconditional. Is it necessary for us to get up and speak on a wedding day? Or can we sit back and enjoy the day? What are your thoughts on this? The day wasn’t without a few bee stings or I should say, wasp bites, but I digress.  A few pics…

Can we talk about her dress? The whole dress from bodice to train was an exquisite lace. Not quite white, but not cream. The plunging neckline consisted of a skin toned fabric to protect from spillage—ahem. This dress suited my daughter to a T. She is not ample in the chest and therefore could easily pull off a revealing neckline. The fitted look showed off her tiny waist. Her veil, which I don’t have a pic of here, was super long which gave the whole ensemble a traditional feel (yet it really was not traditional in the least). She looked absolutely stunning.

My son was a ‘bridesman’ (if you click onto the image, you can see all of the pics on instagram). This is a new thing. The groom also had his female friend as ‘groomswoman’. So, that was an interesting twist. Also, when I went into the Bride’s room to check on my daughter right before the ceremony, she was surrounded by the whole wedding party including her groom. There they sat all awaiting the moment. Different than our old-fashioned way of the groom not seeing the bride before the nuptials.

I eagerly await viewing of the professional photos!

What else? I will be publishing a post “The Original Divorce Warrior” very soon, and you won’t believe who it’s about!

Let me know what you’ve been up to and what you have planned for the changing seasons.

Really like the new look your blog, Lisa. It is so sleek, intuitive and easy to navigate. Wow, the Amazon issue is dragging on, how frustrating. Lol at that mug gaining thousands of views when you can’t even put down an honest book review. Hopefully all this gets resolved soon. Congrats to your daughter and her wedding! She looks stunning in her dress and sounds like a modern fairytale wedding, and her tattos look absolutely gorgeous – loud and proud of them 🙂 <3

Thanks for the feedback, Mabel. I do appreciate your reaction to the new look. Right? A coffee mug? I tried to review a book I just finished last night and still NO. I think I’ll just leave it alone and focus my reviews on GoodReads.

Yes, my daughter really showed off her tattoos in that dress. She did look stunning. Thanks, Mabel! <3

Lisa, I LOVE your new look here! It is so professional and CLEARLY shows this is an AUTHOR site. Well done!

Your daughter is gorgeous, and I am SO glad you had your special day together and you have such an intimate bond with her. No need to toast that when you both already know it. And so interesting they were together BEFORE the vows. Not surprising as times have changed all over the place, so why not at weddings, right?

Anxious to see who the original divorce warrior is!

      Thanks, Chris!
      She truly is beautiful.
Right? And yes, it’s quite different but makes sense to have the ‘first look’ photos and then the whole bridal party together before the ceremony.
I’m close to the reveal of the original divorce warrior!

    Hi Lisa

Just loving your writing style here, girl.

    Very stream-of-consciousness 🙂

By the way… I feel your pain for having to speak at the wedding.

I don’t think anybody likes that.

Sometimes I guess you just gotta bite the bullet.

As for the dress — WoW.

Thanks, Donna! Yes, I’m afraid I couldn’t do it. She’s a stunner on a normal day—put her in a wedding gown and WOW is right. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

First, your website design turned out terrific! I like it as it’s nice and clean. 🙂

Great job on all of your writing! Wow, one of these days I will need to catch up with you on that. Thank you for your patience as I slowly get caught up with you other than what I picked up from Instagram. 🙂

Your daughter’s dress is absolutely stunning! As far as speaking that was completely up to you so try not hang on to any regrets there. Trust me, I do understand on that!

      September 28, 2018 at 5:17 pm

Thanks, Mike! Aw, no worries. It’s so great to have you back. Thanks for that, Mike and I will let it go, like in Frozen. I don’t know why I dwell on these things.

The site is fantastic Lisa! You did great!
And your daughter looks amazing in that dress. WHOA! I don’t know if I would have said anything either. I don’t know what the rules are – are there rules? I mean it’s their day.
A friggen mug – Does it sing? Does it make the coffee for you and deliver it to you before you wake up? PSHA.

    • lisa

      September 28, 2018 at 5:15 pm

Thank you, Kim! Exactly. It’s their day. And yes, there are rules for these things but those rules are changing and I suppose anyone to say a few words or make a speech.

Right? The MUG. Really? I wish.

I think your new website looks great. Congrats on ticking that goal off. Sorry to hear you’re still having trouble with Amazon though – ridiculous!

Aw, your daughter is so beautiful and I love her dress. I’m glad it was a great ceremony and everyone had fun. It’s wonderful you could spend a mother/daughter day with her before the wedding too.

Hi Lauren, thank you! Ya, not sure what’s up with Amazon. I haven’t tried to review a book there for a month or so. We’ll see if it corrected without any email exchange.

Isn’t her dress incredible? It was a fun and memorable weekend 🙂

New look, new beginnings, new season…nice to see how well you have put them together in one post Lisa. I am so happy for you. A daughter’s wedding is a big milestone in one’s life…welcome to another phase of life and I hope your son-in law would be as loving as your daughter. She is looking gorgeous in that gown.
I like the new look of your site, it is looking beautiful and fresh. Love and hugs.

      September 19, 2018 at 5:12 pm

Thank you, Balroop! Yes, I think her new husband (that sounds odd to me :D) will be very loving and care for her in just the way a mother wants to see.

I really love your knew website Lisa!
Glad all went well for your daughter’s wedding. It must have been a special time for you. I remember saying something for my sister’s wedding and bursting into tears. It’s very emmotional!
I just finished “Hearts Unbroken” and LOVED it. Good to see you have new ideas. This is my problem too, I always start something new when I have many other projects on board to finish.
    Take care. Your daughter’s stunning!

    • lisa

      September 19, 2018 at 5:11 pm

Thank you, Marie! Yes, it really is an emotional day. I had tears when the Groom walked up the aisle, before my daughter even entered the room!

I’m delighted to hear you enjoyed the short stories, Marie! YAY. I’m the worst for starting new writing projects before finishing the last one. FOCUS…that’s what I need.

I LOVE her dress. And I’m envious about not having cold feet or nerves. I can’t fathom that. I’m shooting a wedding this weekend and probably more nervous than the bride.
As for making a speech, I think about this sometimes! My mom made one at all of our weddings but she doesn’t have anxiety like I do. I wonder if I have it in me one day..

    • lisa

      September 19, 2018 at 5:09 pm

Yes, she was amazingly calm and collected. Oh, good luck Tamara. You’ll be awesome!! Good for your mom for getting up there. I don’t think we’ll know until the time comes.
