Sharing a poem I wrote a few months ago. If you’re feeling the grips of fear, and who isn’t currently, then I think you’ll enjoy this.

Poem "Unafraid" inspired by the majestic bird--the eagle.

Unafraid

 Unafraid of the darkness
 Eagles perch in wait
 Watching our movements
If we dare

 Swooping in delight
 They carry us afar
 Up, up to
Aquarius night star

We float upon
 Clouds like jelly
 Aspic on our tongues
From melted lies we left behind

Our flight to the horizon
 On breadth of Eagle’s wings
 Lifts our spirits
To unimaginable height

In the inky sky
 Older now
 We learn
 To soar not crawl

 Unafraid of the darkness
All fear subsides
As we fly above obstacles
That no longer block our lives

HOW LONG DOES A POEM TAKE YOU TO WRITE?
DOES IT COME TO YOU ALL AT ONCE Or do you get bits and pieces over days?

Each one is different. They’re never done in one draft. I work on them quite a bit longer after the first draft is down. This one for example, I wrote a draft a few months ago, but it was quite rough the morning I published it. I ‘played’ with it for a few hours before getting to the final. I call it playing, because it’s my favorite part of the process. Thanks for your question, LA CONTESSA. xx

I really needed that, thank you.
And the eagles, so symbolic of our country and the big mess we’re in, and have really been on for.. ever.

Oh, you’re so very welcome, Tamara. It delights me that my poetry could provide small comfort at a time like this. Hm, yes. I hadn’t even thought of the symbol of the eagle in that way but that is absolutely relevant!

Lisa, I am wondering whether the poem has been inspired from the picture or by the eagles we meet in the corridors of life. ‘If we dare’ is inspiring… I like how negative images blend into positive ones – the sky is “inky” yet the soaring! Fabulous!

Yes, good question. I do see them gathered in the trees on my walks, and I think they look daunting. But i agree there are some eagles “in the corridors of life” that inspire us. 🙂 Thank you, Balroop!

Nice, I like the journey and we’re going to need to learn to avoid obstacles that we’re (at least the US) is facing.

Thanks, Jeff. Yes, exactly true. I think there is tons of fear which is what they want, but YOU all will rise above that and overcome or avoid those obstacles. Nice to see you!
