Inspired by the brief beauty of the season, I’ve penned “Prelude to Winter”. Enjoy her before winter pounces.

Prelude to Winter

Her coat of colors laid bare
A prelude to winter
Impossible to appreciate
Until she’s disappeared

You’ll long for her
Arms of amber sunshine
Her face raspberry-orange delight
Easy to take for granted

In the descent of madness
Kiss of unexpected heat
Her prelude briefly
Begs you to remain

In a precious time and place
Impossible to embrace
Fleeting and unbearably spectacular

She’s gone
Leaving a twinkle of October
In her wake
And what’s to come many forsake
Colorless skies and dull, chilly days

Prelude to winter
Left you empty-handed
Make no mistake
She’s a beauty few can grasp
Until it’s too late
