Sharing…a poem for you today in honor of Earth Day. Not a pretty picture but a reality we see daily.

Final Extinction

With impudent malice He dares to stand
The gift of life lay in his hand
But for mother nature He has no need
He sustains himself on dirty greed
The land He rapes the air He takes
For the color of commerce the deal He makes
Through hazy skies the mountains cry
The trees are dead God's creatures die
Yet still He lives these empty dreams
 Amongst the forest's silent screams
Until all at once the world concedes
Unto this monster and all his needs
With impudent malice He dares to stand
The story told God takes his hand
And strikes Man down with all his rage
Then wipes his tears and turns the page. -RW

Wow! So descriptive. With your writing and your beau’s writing, I bet there’s some potential for some epic love letters and love poems.

A powerful poem Lisa! I agree with the sentiment… “still He lives these empty dreams” but why is ‘H’ capital? Usually we use it for God, probably this “monster” is trying to become one!
Your beau is a wonderful poet. Nice to hear that.

Yes, I think that’s exactly it, Balroop. Thank you and I’ll pass that on to him 😀

Did you write that poem? Who is RW? Potent stuff and kudos to the writer. I totally get it!<3

No. RW are the initials of my Beau-Hub? We’re not married but we live together. I used to call him my beau but not sure that encapsulates (how this word popped into my head, I’m not sure) who he is to me. 😛 He’s written some moving poetry. Good share for Earth day.

That’s a depressing but powerful poem. I had a nice earth day paddle out to a barrier island, when I took a nap in a hammock before paddling back.

It is powerful, indeed. Sounds like a wonderful celebration of Earth day, Jeff. A nap outside in a hammock? Perfect.

Powerful poem Lisa — (love the new look of your site btw).

Interesting… a friend commented on a trip she wants to take with her family when this is all over to Africa — she loved the photos of the lions on the road.

It struck me that it is our human penchant to travel the globe that keeps contributing to the destruction of our planet. What if we travelled less and savoured our moments at home more?

It really is. Thanks, Louise 🙂 Yes, reducing travel to essential only in these last months has had a major positive impact. I think you’re right.

Also, there has been a ton of non-essential ‘business’ travel that has contributed to the problem. Much can be done virtually now as we’re learning. It begs the question, how essential is it to travel across Canada for a meeting? Obviously some business travel is required but then all the conventions…are they all necessary or even productive?

Personal travel is definitely human nature’s curiosity. I hope we can balance that desire a bit better. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Louise. Nice to see you.

Thank you so much for sharing, Lisa, so heartbreaking. One of the strangest outcomes of the COVID-19 pandemic are the clear skies in normally polluted cities…the clear water in Venice…it’s kind of amazing actually… but that doesn’t mean it won’t start back up once we ‘return to normal’… just love our earth and thinking of small ways that we can help lesson our carbon footprint… <3 <3 <3

Hi Jane, thanks for popping in. 🙂 Exactly true and I suspect things will get back to ‘normal’ when this is over. It will take half the time to pollute as it did to clear. With POTUS in charge, it’s a certainty…let’s hope a woman is president next go ’round. 🙂 Yes, it’s all we can do are little things…but those end up being impactful. <3 xx
