Feeling...Somber

I’m feeling…somber.

George Floyd is yet another victim in a long list of black men and women who have been killed by people who are meant to protect them. The words “I can’t breathe” have become a sickening pattern. Not this again! How can this keep happening? Why is this happening?

Confession: I could not watch the video of his tragic death. I don’t have the stomach for it.

I have been watching the news and seeing the protests. I feel the power of the people, black and white, right through my television. They have every right to protest the repetition of police officers brutality. It goes far deeper than that though. Centuries of oppression. Centuries of fighting for what rights they have now. Still, fighting stereotyped attitudes toward skin the color of black.

There are a small percentage of ‘Aggravators’ creating chaos and taking the attention away from the peaceful protestors. This is equally disturbing. I would not be surprised to find out that they had been hired to create violence in the street for the very reason of distracting from the core message. Also, to make the protestors appear violent in general. The fact that I even think this speaks to the craziness of the last 3 1/2 years of the current POTUS.

But we shouldn’t judge the protestors by the destruction of the aggravators.

Where is the President?

What’s worse than all of this? The president’s reaction or I should say inaction.

Holding up a bible, calling in the army, turning the lights out in the White House—heinous and cowardly under the circumstances. Everything about POTUS is purely wrong. It’s not out of ignorance either. It is out of willful arrogance.

As I posted a black square on Instagram yesterday, I felt like a hypocrite. I know nothing of the black peoples’ struggle. Yet, as inane as it is, I wanted to show that I care. I wish there was more I could do.

Let’s talk.

I’m glad that you mentioned the difference between those protesting and the aggravators. I’m getting so frustrated with certain politicians and news outlets using “protests” and “riots” interchangably.

Exactly, giving the protesters a bad name. All they’re doing is exercising their 1st Amendment rights. Very important freedom.

Just talking about this and putting this out on a public forum is a start, Lisa.

We need to all speak up about racism and black lives as you are here.

The first steps are awareness and shedding light on the problem.

I’m not even going to touch the subject of that guy in the White House !?

I hope so, Vishnu. I agree with you and the protesters are doing the job by not letting us forget and move on to the next tragedy so quickly. That guy—I hope he goes away soon.
Thanks for stopping by, Vishnu. Always nice to hear your voice here.

The hypocrisy of equal rights has been going on for so long that we almost forget the reality but it is heartbreaking that the ghosts of past revisit to remind us that nothing has actually changed! How many more lives do they need to understand that each life is precious.
Many thanks for highlighting the issue Lisa. We are all connected with it as humans.

Ugh, so well said, Balroop! This: ” it is heartbreaking that the ghosts of past revisit to remind us that nothing has actually changed!” Indeed. In fact, it’s as if we’ve gone backwards. The POTUS has regressed the country. Let’s hope for change starting with a new leader. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I’m glad that you pointed out that the agitators are not protesters. They’re doing those things to trick others in to believing protesters are the ones who are violent.

“But we shouldn’t judge the protestors by the destruction of the aggravators.” Yesss!!!!

There is more that you can do than just posting a black sqaure. If you’re on FB, I posted a list of easy things you can do on my author like page. 🙂 https://www.facebook.com/ChrysFey/

Thank you, Chrys. The aggravators are detracting and seem to be allies of POTUS since he is calling for the army. Good for you for posting things we can do! I’m not on facebook though. Maybe you can share it on here? If you want. Thanks again, for sharing your thoughts.

Maybe that’s a start – just showing you care. Our silence must seem so.. daunting.
I haven’t watched the video either.
The President is.. I can’t even find the words to describe him. He should never have happened.

Yes, it felt good just to put it into words here. still, so much that makes us feel powerless. “He should never have happened,”—couldn’t have said that better. Thanks, Tamara. Let’s hope for change.
