spring kind of mood

This post has been updated 3/4/21.

Springtime in my neighborhood is full of pinks, greens and yellows beginning in late March.  Here’s a little Spring time mood for all of you.  Has Spring sprung for you yet?  If not, I hope these images will put a little ‘Spring’ in your heart today…

Daffodils are pushing though, cherry tree buds are noticeably awaiting their time to blossom. Vancouver in March is a glorious, yet still cold, month of the year. As one of the mildest cities in Canada, we are fortunate to embrace spring earlier than most Canadian cities. And while the blooms come early here, we also still have plenty of snow on our local mountains. we can take a short drive up and go snow shoeing if we so desire. We don’t so desire but we do enjoy a snow hike in regular hiking boots.

So let’s take a look at what I cooked up a few years ago to celebrate this spring season (coming soon to a city near you).

POETRY to give us even more spring mood…

Today

By Billy Collins

If ever there were a spring day so perfect,
so uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze
that it made you want to throw
open all the windows in the house
and unlatch the door to the canary’s cage,
indeed, rip the little door from its jamb,
a day when the cool brick paths
and the garden bursting with peonies
seemed so etched in sunlight
that you felt like taking
a hammer to the glass paperweight
on the living room end table,
releasing the inhabitants
from their snow-covered cottage
so they could walk out,
holding hands and squinting
into this larger dome of blue and white,
well, today is just that kind of day.

Feeling in a Spring kind of mood now?  What are you adding to your wardrobe?  Are you a pastel, B & W or bold hued kind of woman?

Being a March baby, I feel a strong connection to spring. I love to see everything green and pink and yellow and white coming back to life!

YES. Happy birthday, Joyce! It’s a magical time. The flowers are now poking up giving us that color and the cherry trees will soon be in blossom. I imagine I’ll be seeing some of this landscape on your instagram 🙂

I love spring colors Lisa and they are all around me right now. Some trees are already laded with blossoms, others are losing them because of wild wind that chooses to blow them off too soon. The hillock that I see everyday from my living room is green and yellow. I have taken some lovely shots and would share them soon.
There was a time I would add spring sarees to my bursting wardrobe… no longer so!
Looking forward to some beach visits after we get our vaccinations but the queue is long!
Thanks for sharing a lovely poem.

Yes, it bursts with color, very soon here. How nice you have a pretty tree out your window. Would love to see it. A spring saree sounds lovely. A beach visit sounds perfect and good luck with the immunization. We are not eligible just yet. We’re still immunizing seniors and essential workers. Maybe by July, they say. Fingers crossed.

Where I was living last year, the azaleas would be brilliant right now and the last of the camellias (which began blooming in November) would be putting on a show, as well as the dogwoods. But here, on the Blue Ridge, we have mud (no more ice and snow) and the daffodils are just sticking out their necks and testing the air.

Sounds gorgeous, Jeff. Blue Ridge mountains have a different kind of beauty this time of year. I just saw crocuses up, today.
