So I’m on a bit of a rant today. If you’re a mom, you might feel the same. On Saturday May 8th, I had a nice face-time call with my son and his girlfriend. Of course, we got onto the subject of mother’s day and what my plans were. Then I remembered last year’s mother’s day, and I told them about how I turned on the television in the evening, to see what wonderful shows/movies might be on.
I first heard of this book while scrolling Instagram. A fellow art journal creator had posted a stack of inspirational books. Being that I’m intrigued by FK, the exceptional woman and artist, I took note of the title.
The Diary of Frida Kahlo An Intimate Self Portrait by Carlos Fuentes, has had a profound effect on me. I wrote in my own journal, “I feel grieved to come to the last page. I can’t say that I have felt that way about any other book.”
Unfortunately, I became a sad statistic last Friday, April 2nd. I found myself at a Covid-19 testing site. It wasn’t that long ago that I would drive by such a site, and see the cars lined up and wonder just how sick were those people to wait in line for an awful test? Now I was one of those people and I knew just how sick I was to get in my car and drive there.
Do you dab life away? What do I mean by this? Well, I’m currently taking an online watercolor class. This is a new medium for me. I’ve painted in oils and mostly acrylics. Watercolor is a different animal altogether. I find myself dabbing away what I’ve put on the paper. In fear. Fear of what? Paint blobs.
Pride is one of the 7 deadly sins. Ironically, it’s an important part of the parent/child relationship. Have you ever heard your mom or dad tell someone how proud they are of you? Have they ever told you directly how proud they are of your accomplishments or just YOU in general?
Sharing a poem I wrote a few months ago. If you’re feeling the grips of fear, and who isn’t currently, then I think you’ll enjoy this.
Unafraid of the darkness Eagles perch in wait Watching our movements If we dare Swooping in delight They carry us afar Up, up to Aquarius night star We float upon Clouds like jelly Aspic on our tongues From melted lies we left behind Our flight to the horizon On breadth of Eagle’s wings Lifts our spirits To unimaginable height In the inky sky Older now We learn To soar not crawl Unafraid of the darkness All fear subsides As we fly above obstacles That no longer block our lives -Lisa Thomson Wells

It won’t surprise you to read that narcissists are unable to concede to loss of anything—big or small. Taking Trump’s inability to accept the recent vote and his loss to Biden, sets up a perfect case study. As I read the Washington Post’s article and full audio transcript of Trump’s call to Georgia’s Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, I recognize all the typical signs of a narcissist’s inability to concede to loss.
On a more personal level, from my own experience, a narcissist cannot accept being wrong in any way. They are only angered by facts that interfere with their own self aggrandizing or wishful thinking.
Well, we’re winding down another year, Sleevers! It’s been one of the most challenging for all of us but we’re still here and finding silver linings has never been more important.
In closing out the year, I’ve put together an uplifting, emotional and empowering playlist for The Wine Diaries-Musings On Divorce Paired With Wine. And believe me when I say, I took my time making this playlist. I went back and removed songs and
