Yikes-500 Writing Prompts

Last year my son and his girlfriend bought me a very thick book titled 500 Writing Prompts. Whew. Not daunting at all…

October Lately

October LatelyWelcome spooky, October…looks like me trying to come up with a brilliant blog post…

Well, September came and went in a flash. I didn’t write one post here and that is a first for me. I have never gone a whole month without writing something here. Should this concern me? I remember the early days of my blogging back in 2011-12 and I didn’t understand bloggers who would take long, unexpected breaks but now I do. They had been in the game for several years and eventually, we change.

Courage

courage

Such a small word for so large a meaning. To be brave even when you fear it. Whatever ‘it’ might be. I wrote in my art journal with a white pen on black painted paper (setting the mood), exactly what I needed to hear. Funny how that works. Well, the purpose of journaling truly is to help us muddle through emotions, doubts and life stuff. As I re-read this passage, I felt it might be helpful to my readers.

Interview With Nora M. Parker, My Night Time Poet

February 2, 2022

Today, I am cautiously introducing to you, Nora M. Parker, my night time poet pseudonym or perhaps my muse, and alter ego.

Although I have only published one of her poems here—something she reminds me often—I plan to include more of her night poems here in the near future.

I will warn you that she has a bit of an attitude. Without further ado, welcome Nora M. Parker to the blog…

October 29, 2021

I can’t believe it. It’s my tenth Blog-giversary! Ten years of blogging here at lisathomsonlive. Notice how the word ‘giver’ is found in this term bloggiversary. It’s fitting, isn’t it? We bloggers give a ton. Words, ideas, solutions, time…Time does fly while you’re having fun. Best of all, fellow bloggers who have become my online friends have enriched this whole blogging thing.

Ode to Air

Ode to Air

I wrote this little poem as a challenge: Choose one element and write about it. I chose AIR and VERSE.

What element attracts you? Water, fire, earth or air? I tend toward water but Air is my birth sign…so I chose her.

Air is breath of life, our souls. It is the power harnessed to create energy. It is also the ‘mother of thought’ and corresponds to communication and the colors yellow and white.

His True Love

Ash blew into his eye
As he scattered her
From the bridge
Into the Creek below

Lily pads will surround her
And gracious trees will soothe her
Just as she had asked

To rest her burned bones
Beneath the red bridge
Where they first kissed

He wiped his wet cheek
With his shirt sleeve
Dusted his true love
From his jeans

Thank you, my Love, he whispered
As he replaced the lid of the urn
Closing his eyes
For a final goodbye

He turned to leave
The bridge swayed
And the wind carried her scent
 Of lavender back to him

Circle of Life #Poetry Challenge #Senryu #Haiku

Today I’m responding to Colleen Chesebro’s Poetry Challenge Prompt: Circle of Life. The following is a form of Haiku, called a Senryu in a 3/5/3 syllable structure.

I had to look up these poetry definitions, too. I am more a free verse girl, when it comes to writing poetry. However, joining this challenge was a good brain bender. This kind of writing has a way of tweaking word patterns. I confess that I used the Syllable Counter because counting syllables quickly had me questioning my English language skills. *insert laugh track*

If you love to write poetry, do pop over to Colleen’s site to find out more about or join, her Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenges.

CIRCLE OF LIFE

Apple falls
Nearer the tree
Than I knew

I am you
And you could be me
Certainly

My journey
Ironic ending
Circles me

I said I wrote a Haiku. I didn’t say it was good. Learning…
