I watched the whole season of the new show This Is Us…I was hooked after episode two. And it takes a lot to get me hooked these days.
One scene struck a chord with me. Jack and Rebecca are getting ready to meet their best friends for a dinner (a standing date) and Rebecca wasn’t feeling festive and wanted to stay home. Jack told her that they had to go because Miguel and Shelly had something they wanted to talk to them about. So, in the middle of their appetizer, when everyone had a drink in hand, Miguel made an announcement. “We’re getting divorced.” Continue reading “How to Tell Your Best Friends You’re Getting Divorced”
HBO’s Divorce, the new show starring Sarah Jessica Parker, is both raw and funny. I read a few reviews that weren’t favorable so my expectations weren’t exactly high. I’m happy to report though, that this show based solely on the Premier episode, has a Continue reading “HBO’s Divorce-Raw and Funny”
In 1922, author Elizabeth von Armin’s novel Enchanted April was published. Surprising Elizabeth as much as anyone else, it took the book world by storm. Hailed as a “delicious confection” capable of “working its magic on all”. The story is so good that it was made into a film 70 plus years later!

But I have to admit I see a little of myself in many of these beloved characters.
Isn’t that the brilliance of the writers who create these characters? They make our problems seem small or they make us say “Oh, so it isn’t just me…”
Let’s take a look at some of these TV moms and you tell me— which one are you?
You’re Christy from Mom if: You’re struggling to pay the bills, your mother lives with you and she likes to party more than you, you’re divorced, had a brief affair with your boss, you’re in rehab, you’re trying your best to protect your children from your crazy mother and other life disasters. In my mind I’m not the older woman because I’m 22, don’t ya know? However, the calendar begs to differ. Last year I celebrated my 50th spin around the sun and the number still stuns me, just a little. So, any-who, men have been doing it since the dawn of time. They’ve been enjoying the beauty of women much younger than themselves. It’s socially acceptable much to the older woman’s vexation. Continue reading “In Praise Of Older Women, With Younger Men”
